A selection of four poems by MJ
time’s light
a lantern is dangling from the roof of my mouth
i’ll choke if i’m not careful.
heat moves my words
i eat in Her quiet hold
careful is as careful goes,
first light, last snow
can you see the Winter’s glow?
natural or not, lantern sold
lantern bought
my perfect palate is melting
my perfect palate is screaming for release
to be dark once more
to be silent, oh but what for?
what pain it is to have so much to say
so much fever cooking all the time
to sit with you, truth told, the best way to pass the time
candle-lit hallways and a place i visited but never will visit again
hanging low, words come out quicker than i would like
blush sweeps over my cheeks down to my feet
i found my light…is this where i land?
i found the lantern bearer across the hall,
then i banged my head against the wall.
so it’s now a:
1) place i restrain visiting
2) place i no longer long
i found that;
it is not me that is warm, but
the ignition between you and me
i bear a lantern hanging from the roof of my mouth
and words spill out quick
put it out slow, else you’ll lose the wick
i lost it once, twice,
the lantern bearer told me to be nice
though it wasn’t you that i was hurting
it was i, using my darkest vice
funny how the light lights the dark
funny how the dark is just dark
i’m all red until everything has been said
i’m not sure how to stop
not at least until i’m dead
warmth
today i’m going to be warm
i’m going to follow you and the feelings too
today i’m going to follow the light
i’m going to follow it i swear.
today heat will not burn me
i will not cross the line
today
there is a light your eye
so then…is it so? that you cannot see the Sky?
She looks at you so cold and blue
but i’m not that, i guess i never knew
yesterday i followed the cold
today i’m going to follow the heat
funny to see
what you will never meet
darkness
night rules my mind
and kidnaps your bliss
you better watch out
or i’ll go in for the kiss.
Moon guides the way
as cold as she is
scintillant and stunning
i’d follow her to the end of the end
the and back to the start
but you told me that’s not what makes a perfect heart
devotion is but an act of childish allegiance
so show me, pray tell me, and let me devour
your knowledge is so bright
i can’t have it.
for i am but the night
