Is it just me or does everything suck now? As of time of writing a fascist will be in the White House again in less than 24 hours while at the same time promoting a meme coin. Washed up celebrities are in MAGA rap songs calling people fags. The country is shifting to the hard right in record numbers while ignoring the very real problems we have and blaming it on trans underwater basket weavers or whatever. All of social media is owned by right-wing oligarchs that want nothing more than to control the planet. Not to mention the Earth is getting hotter every fucking year and my tax dollars are contributing to a genocide halfway across the world! It makes one think, what is the point of it all?
I can’t help but feel that we are in the bad timeline. While it might be the treatment resistant depression, I find it hard to get out of bed anymore. Every passing day moving more rapid than the next while we tear ourselves apart. In this coming administration people are going to suffer. We will continue to fund a genocide and the climate crisis will get worse. We will violently displace and deport any person we deem “illegal” and cut all self-expression back down to the atomic age. As our situation worsens, particularly in regards to the climate crisis, people will choose more minorities to scapegoat until we all have a knife up against our necks and our homes are on fire.
All I can ask of you dear reader is to not give up, no matter how bad it gets. It’s hard to imagine what tomorrow will be like and I understand. Even if it’s difficult you still need to get out of bed and you still need to eat. I made a resolution this year to stay more positive which right now seems like a pretty lofty goal, but you shouldn’t let the fact that the world is being looted and burned take your positivity.
Be good to the people around you. Turn on your favorite album. Wear your favorite outfit. Wake up early to watch the sunrise. Treat yourself to a nice dinner. But whatever you do, do not fucking give up. Giving up only gives the people who want
you dead more power. You don’t have to be an activist in the streets or a legislator, be good to your community and to yourself and stand up for what you believe in.
It doesn’t matter if the entire country develops even further right political beliefs. Don’t let them shut you up. Stand up for what you believe. Be the annoying uncle at Thanksgiving but be woke about it. Donate money to a cause if you have a couple extra bucks or volunteer at a food bank. Be a good person. Without good people our situation will only worsen. Sounds cliche, but be the change you want to see and don’t let anyone take that power away from you.
